Welcome to the Starting Strength App. By downloading, installing, or using our mobile application (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.
By accessing or using the App, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
The Starting Strength App is a fitness tracking application designed to help users follow the Starting Strength barbell training program. The App provides:

The App offers premium features ("Pro") through in-app purchases made and billed through your Apple App Store or Google Play account:
Modification and discontinuation. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the App or any feature, in whole or in part, at any time. If we decide to permanently discontinue the App or the Pro service, we will make reasonable efforts to give affected users advance notice — for example, at least 30 days' notice through the App or by email to the address associated with your account, where we have one. Following discontinuation, some or all premium features that rely on our servers may stop working. Any refund or other remedy for a Lifetime purchase in that event will be handled in accordance with the Apple or Google refund policy through which the purchase was made, together with your non-excludable rights under applicable consumer law (see Section 14).
If you use the form check video review service:
5.1 Two tiers, with different visibility. Form checks are not included in a Pro subscription. There are two options, and the difference between them is whether your video is made public:
5.2 Permission to publish (Free Form Check only). The Free Form Check service is for adults only — you must be 18 or over to submit. This section applies only if you submit a video to the Free Form Check service. If you use the paid Priority service, it does not apply to you.
By submitting a video to the Free Form Check service, you grant Shabu Pty Ltd a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable licence to host, reproduce, edit, excerpt, caption, adapt, distribute, publicly perform and publicly display that video, and any commentary about it, on our podcast and on channels including YouTube and X, and in clips, trailers and promotional material for that podcast. This includes the right to use your first name, image and likeness as they appear in the video for those purposes. We will not publish your surname.
You are not paid for this, and you are not entitled to any royalty, fee or other compensation.
The review is public and candid. A coach will critique your technique in front of an audience, and that critique may identify faults plainly. That is the nature of the service. If you are not comfortable with your training being discussed publicly, use the paid Priority service instead, or do not submit.
You confirm that: you are at least 18 years old; the video is yours to submit; everyone appearing or audible in it has agreed to appear publicly; you were permitted to film where it was recorded; and the video contains no third-party material — including recorded music playing in the background — that would require someone else's permission to publish.
Removing your video. You may ask us to stop using your video at any time by contacting us. We will not include it in anything published after that request, and we will use best efforts to remove it from channels we control. We cannot guarantee removal from copies others have already downloaded, re-shared or archived, and we may not be able to re-edit an episode that has already been published. Aside from those limits, nothing here affects any rights you have under applicable privacy or data-protection law.
No obligation to publish. We are not required to review, publish, or keep publishing any submission, and may decline one for any reason.
IMPORTANT: The App is designed to assist with tracking your barbell training. It is NOT a substitute for:
Consult a healthcare provider before beginning any exercise program. You assume all risks associated with using the App and performing any exercises.
AI Coach and Workout Coach Notes are optional, automated training-assistance features powered by a third-party AI provider (Anthropic Claude). They may generate inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate recommendations. You are responsible for deciding whether any recommendation is appropriate for your circumstances.
Do not use AI Coach for medical advice, injury diagnosis, treatment decisions, emergency assistance, or any situation where incorrect guidance could cause harm. Stop training and consult a qualified professional if you experience pain, injury symptoms, or a medical concern.
By using AI Coach, you agree that relevant training data may be processed by third-party AI providers as described in the Privacy Policy.
AI Coach is subject to fair-use limits. Pro access currently includes up to 10 AI Coach questions per day, and the allowance resets daily. The limit is intended to keep the feature sustainable rather than to restrict normal training use; we may adjust it, and we will not reduce it in a way that materially undermines the subscription you purchased. AI Coach is one part of Pro access and is not sold as an unlimited or standalone service.
Changes and withdrawal. We may change, edit, restrict, or withdraw AI Coach at any time, at our discretion. This includes changing how it behaves, what it can do, and the material it draws on. We will give you as much notice as is reasonably practicable, and doing so will not constitute a breach of these Terms. The rest of the App and your other Pro features are unaffected. Where a feature you purchased is withdrawn, any refund or other remedy will be handled as described in Section 4 — through the Apple or Google refund policy under which you purchased, together with your non-excludable rights under applicable consumer law (see Section 14).
The App, including its content, features, and functionality, is owned by Shabu Pty Ltd and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
STARTING STRENGTH® Trademark Notice: "STARTING STRENGTH" is a registered trademark owned by The Aasgaard Company and is used under license in this App. The Aasgaard Company owns the following United States federal trademark registrations:
The STARTING STRENGTH mark is well-known and recognized by the general public and associated with The Aasgaard Company. This App is authorized to use the mark in connection with the provision of fitness tracking and training services as described herein.
You agree not to:
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SHABU PTY LTD SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO PERSONAL INJURY, PAIN AND SUFFERING, OR LOSS OF DATA ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE APP.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or via email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
We may terminate or suspend your access to the App immediately, without prior notice, for any reason, including breach of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the App will cease immediately.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia. Any disputes arising from these Terms will be resolved in the courts of Queensland, Australia.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or any similar law in your jurisdiction, that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified. Where a guarantee that cannot be excluded applies, and to the extent permitted by law, our liability for failing to comply with it is limited to re-supplying the relevant service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied.
